The 13th Commander’s Cup Golf Championship 2026 will tee off at the beautifully maintained Eagles Golf Links tomorrow with the first group scheduled to start at 6.00 a.m.
The annual showpiece continues to grow in stature, drawing strong participation from across the island and overseas. This will be one of the blue ribbon events organised by Sri Lanka Air Force along with the Cycle race. This year marks 75 years of service for the nation by Sri Lanka Air Force commencing from 1951.
Organised under the guidance of the Sri Lanka Air Force, the tournament has evolved into one of the most anticipated events on the local golfing calendar. This year, over 100 golfers have already registered, including a notable presence of foreign players, reflecting the event’s expanding international appeal.
The championship will be contested in both Men’s and Women’s categories, ensuring inclusive participation. The Men’s handicap has been capped at 18, while the Women’s handicap is set at 24, providing a balanced and competitive platform for golfers of varying skill levels.
In addition to the main events, the Eagles Challenge Trophy will once again spotlight the competitive spirit among members of the Tri-Forces, adding prestige and camaraderie to the tournament. The testing layout at China Bay, known for its coastal winds and strategic fairways, is expected to challenge even seasoned campaigners.
The Sri Lanka Air Force’s contribution to the growth of golf in the country has been significant. Through the development and meticulous upkeep of Eagles Golf Links, the SLAF has created a world-class facility that promotes sports tourism while nurturing local talent.
Dialog Enterprises returns for the sixth consecutive year as the main sponsor, underlining strong corporate backing for the championship. Their continued partnership has elevated the tournament’s profile and prize structure.
The grand prize-giving ceremony will take place in Trincomalee on the evening of 21 February, bringing the curtain down on what promises to be another memorable edition of the Commander’s Cup.
Meanwhile the cycle race called Guwanhamuda Papedi Sawariya 2026 too will take place for both Men’s and Women’s segments across the Island. Many overseas cyclists have already been registered and already received more than 150 entries. Men's event will take place On 27 February from Negombo to Chilaw on day 1 and on day 2 will see through Chilaw to Dambulla and the final day it will be from Dambulla to Colombo. Meanwhile the Women’s event will be from Mirigama to Colombo. Toyota Lanka is the Platinum sponsor of these two events.
