SLC Major Club T20 tournament

Colts, Ace Capital CC and Tamil Union continued their unbeaten run in the SLC Major Club T20 tournament with wins while Sebastianites suffered their first reverse in the matches concluded yesterday.

Colts secured their second successive win when they beat Nugegoda SWC quite comfortably by eight wickets at the SSC grounds. Invited to bat first Nugegoda SWC could muster only 88-9 being tied down by the seam and spin of Udith Madushan (3/17) and Muditha Lakshan (2/14). Colts reached their target in 12 overs with opener Yashoda Lanka racing to 45 off 34 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes).

Ace Capital CC also secured their second straight win when they defeated Badureliya CC by four wickets in the second match played at this venue.

A fine half-century by wicket-keeper Ranesh Silva (51 off 36 balls, 4 fours) failed to give Badureliya CC a competitive total as they were dismissed for 114 in 17.5 overs losing their wickets mainly to former Sylvestrian off-spinner Roshan Jayatissa (4/24). Ace Capital CC got the required runs in 14.1 overs with Thanuka Dabare scoring 37 off 16 balls inclusive of eight fours.

Sebastianites became the latest team to lose their unbeaten status when they suffered their first loss to Bloomfield by four wickets at the NCC grounds. Opener Abisheak Liyanaarachchi’s 45 off 40 balls (3 fours, 3 sixes) was the top score in Sebastianites’ modest total of 116-7.

Bloomfield also found the going tough using up 19 overs to get across the line losing six wickets in the process.

In a game reduced to 18 overs Tamil Union defended their small total of 128-7 by bowling out Kurunegala YCC for 89 to win by 39 runs and record their third consecutive win in the second match played at the NCC grounds. Off-spinner Aravinda Premaratne took 3/25 for Kurunegala YCC. Seamer Shiran Fernando (3/16) and Raveen de Silva (3/21) excelled for Tamil Union. – (ST)
