Air Force SC suffered their first defeat of the ongoing SLC Major Club Women’s Limited-Over tournament when they lost to Chilaw Marians CC by 88 runs (DLS method) at the Galle Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Sri Lanka Women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu’s refined knock of 77 off 98 balls (8 fours, 1 six) enabled Chilaw Marians CC to total 150 in 37.5 overs. Right-arm seamer Ruchini Samarasinghe was the main wicket-taker for Air Force SC with 4/10 off 4.5 overs. Air Force SC chasing a revised target of 152 collapsed for 63 in 29.1 overs with left-arm spinner Sachini Nisansala capturing 3/3 in 2.1 overs.
Air Force SC’s defeat left only Chilaw Marians CC and Navy SC as the two unbeaten sides in the tournament. Navy SC recorded their seventh straight win beating CCC by 8 wickets at Welisara. Sri Lanka players shone for Air Force SC in their victory. Inoka Ranaweera (3/22) and Sathya Sandeepani (3/27) dismissed CCC for 84 off 32.2 overs. Then Hasini Perera hit an unbeaten 53 off 56 balls (9 fours) to see Air Force SC home in the 20th over.
Panadura SC and Army SC both chasing behind the three pace-setters registered victories. Panadura SC defeated SSC by 54 runs at Kirimandala. Skipper Piumi Wathsala top scored for Panadura SC with 45 in their total of 171-6 in 50 overs. SSC managed 117-8, their batting being stalled by right-arm seamer Pramudhi Methsara (3/12 off 8 overs).
Sri Lanka players Sugandika Kumari (56 off 104 balls, 2 fours) and Nilakshika Silva (51 off 49 balls, 4 fours) scored fifties apiece for Army SC to total 201 and beat Ace Capital CC by 87 runs by restricting them to 114-9 at Panadura esplanade. Left-arm seamer Sugandika Pathirana took 4/27 for Ace Capital CC and left-arm spinner Nimasha Madushani 3/12 for Army SC.
Two teams lying at the bottom half of the table Badureliya CC beat Colts by 50 runs at Colts grounds. 41-year-old Iresha Damayanthi missed out on a century by six runs (94 off 137 balls, 9 fours) and Rashmi Netharanjali scored 55 off 84 balls (5 fours) in a partnership of 113 to see Badureliya CC to a total of 199-5. Colts were bundled out for 149 off 39.1 overs. Kalani Yapa was their top scorer with 61 off 96 balls (5 fours). (ST)
