Chilaw Marians CC, Colts and Badureliya CC register wins

Chilaw Marians CC, Colts and Badureliya CC recorded outright victories in the SLC Under 23 Emerging Club 2-day tournament matches concluded yesterday, whereas the remaining eight matches ended in draws with teams picking up points in the first innings.

Chilaw Marians CC thrashed Navy SC by an innings and 75 runs at Welisara. Navy SC’s batting was destroyed for 111 in the first innings by the left-arm spin of Irushika Thimira (6/35 off 20 overs) and for 193 by the right-arm leg-spin of Melan Hansaka (7/65 off 17.1 overs). Only opener Uvindu Perera stood tall for the sailors with 60 off 77 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes) in the second innings. Chilaw Marians CC scored 379.

Colts and Badureliya CC won by similar margins by 9 wickets. Former Isipathana College opener Randunu Ganganath carried his bat out for 128* off 186 balls (12 fours, 3 sixes) in Colts’ first innings total of 260-7 declared. Leo CC trailing by 120 runs were bowled out for 165 in their second innings by leg-spinner Praveen Maneesha (5/36 off 12.2 overs) leaving Colts the formality of scoring 46 for victory which they achieved playing on their home turf at Colts grounds.

United Southern SC’s batting collapsed twice for 125 and following-on for 175 to the left-arm spin of Brian Hansaja who finished with a match bag of 8/121 and off-spinner Sharon Abishek (4/30) in reply to Badureliya CC’s first innings of 253. Left with 48 to chase, Badureliya CC lost one wicket in getting there in their match concluded at Army grounds, Dombagoda. Viranga Yeshan carried his bat out for 87 (125 balls, 7 fours) in United Southern SC’s second innings.

Sebastianites piled up a massive 429-8 to beat NCC in the first innings at NCC grounds. Replying to NCC’s score of 323-9 declared, Sebastianites carried on from 51-0 with their top order making lavish contributions. Their top three batsmen Manupa Manmitha (63 off 68 balls, 10 fours), Manasa de Silva (78 off 122 balls, 8 fours) and Chamindu Perera (88 off 133 balls, 13 fours, 1 six) all made half-centuries to which Kavindu Gayathra contributed a fine 102 (152 balls, 11 fours). De Silva and Perera added 130 for the third wicket.

Former Sri Lanka U19 opener Sadisha Rajapaksa scored a brilliant 118 off 192 balls (11 fours, 2 sixes) and skipper Shevon Daniel contributed with a fighting 63* off 103 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes) to help SSC recover from 63-5 to score 255-9 declared in reply to Police SC’s 220 and grab first innings points at Police Park. Left-arm seamer Nipun Premaratne was the pick of the Police SC bowlers with 5/54 off 14.2 overs. Police SC made 147-6 in their second innings with Irusha Akash contributing 60* off 81 balls (7 fours).

Sadisha Rajapaksa contributed to SSC’s win with a century, Anjala Bandara hit a captain’s knock of 138 for CCC, Malsha Tharupathi’s all-round contribution gave Moors SC a win 

Anjala Bandara hit a stroke-filled 138 off 191 balls (10 fours, 4 sixes) to give CCC an easy first innings win against Negombo CC at CCC grounds. Replying to Negombo CC’s first innings of 181, CCC scored 286. Negombo CC in their second innings made 150-4 with Thathsara Eshan making 57*.

BRC had to thank their middle and lower order batsmen for bringing them a first innings win against Army SC at BRC grounds. Replying to Army SC’s first innings of 222, BRC slumped to 54-5 before recovering to make 274. The highlight of their innings was the 93-run stand for the sixth wicket between skipper Diniru Abeywickramasingha (50 off 62 balls, 5 fours, 1 six) and Vishwa Supun (47 off 58 balls, 9 fours) and the three partnerships involving Yasiru Rodrigo (77 off 135 balls, 10 fours, 2 sixes) that raised the total for the last three wickets by 122 runs. Seamer Dimantha Arusha took 4/38 off 20.1 overs for Army SC who made 202-6 in their second innings.

Nugegoda SWC grabbed first innings points from Colombo Malay CC at Kirimandala. Replying to Nugegoda SWC’s first innings of 298, Colombo Malay CC fell short by 45 runs being all out for 253 despite contributions of 63 off 97 balls (5 fours, 1 six) from Woshitha Amarasinghe, 59 off 92 balls (4 fours) from Viduneth Wilson and 49 and 43 from skipper Hirantha Jayasinghe and Kevin Samuel respectively. Off-spinner Senura Gihan took 4/58. Nugegoda SWC in their second innings scored 16-1.

Former Sri Lanka U19 cricketer Malsha Tharupathi starred in Moors SC’s first innings win over Moratuwa SC at Moors grounds. Replying to Moratuwa SC’s first innings of 293, Moors SC were not too happily placed at 196-6. But Tharupathi with 92 off 87 balls (4 fours, 6 sixes) saw Moors SC add 136 for three wickets to see them to a score of 332-9 declared. Moratuwa SC were 107-7 in their second innings with Tharupathi shining with the ball taking 4/23.

Former Mahindian Dulsith Darshana’s knock of 91 off 189 balls (9 fours) proved a vain effort as Galle CC were dismissed for 207 in reply to Kurunegala YCC’s first innings of 270 at the Welagedara Stadium. Another Mahindian Senuka Dangamuwa took 4/44 with his leg-spin for Kurunegala YCC who scored 153-3 in their second innings with Kavindu Ekanayake contributing with 60.

Bloomfield (318-9d and 98-0d) beat Kandy Customs SC (222 and 102-1) in the first innings at Bloomfield grounds. Captain Sudheera Weeratne (72* off 112 balls, 9 fours, 1 six) top scored for Kandy Customs SC.

Panadura SC were well placed to take first innings points from Ragama CC in their match begun at Panadura esplanade yesterday. After dismissing Ragama CC for 194, Panadura SC ended the day strongly placed at 121-1 with Kavindu Amameth unbeaten on 57 (off 102 balls, 8 fours). Ragama CC were 124-1 at one stage following half-centuries from Denura Dimansith (72 off 77 balls, 11 fours) and Yoshitha Isuranga (50 off 82 balls, 6 fours) before losing their remaining wickets for the addition of 70 runs to the left-arm spin of former Panadura Sumangalian Mevindu Kumarasiri who ended up with figures of 6/40 of 16 overs.
