Group A table toppers Police SC led by Sri Lanka white ball cricketer Ashen Bandara have a very good chance to extend their lead at the top when they take on Chilaw Marians CC at the Colts grounds in one of six matches starting today as the SLC Major Club 3-day League enters its third weekend.
While Police SC have secured an outright win and a first innings win to head the table, Chilaw Marians CC on the other hand have lost both their matches outright and need to lift themselves from the depths of despair they have fallen into.
With CCC having a free weekend, second placed Colts have the chance to widen the point’s gap which currently is a mere 0.210 when they meet defending champions Bloomfield at the NCC grounds. Bloomfield were beaten in the first innings by CCC last weekend and it was not the start they would have hoped for. They will be looking to get back on track soon with a win.
Similarly, with Group B table toppers Ace Capitals CC without a game this weekend gives the opportunity to the next four teams behind them to grab the lead.
Tamil Union placed second and BRC, third will meet at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, Sooriyawewa, while fourth placed Moors SC will take on fifth placed NCC at the CCC grounds. All four teams are tightly knitted together on points. A win for any of them will take them to the top of the group.
Nugegoda SWC, the only club to win outright last weekend, have a chance to make their way to the top of Group A when they take on Panadura SC at the Rangiri Dambulla Cricket Stadium.
The other game starting today is between Group B wooden-spoonists Kurunegala YCC and Badureliya SC at the P. Sara Oval.
