Ceylon Masters International Badminton 2025 begins in grand style

The much-anticipated Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championship 2025, where over 350 international shuttlers from leading badminton-playing countries including Sri Lanka, was inaugurated on Friday, 6 June at the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Complex at Darley Road in Colombo. Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya declared open the annual high-profile badminton competition conducted by Ceylon Masters’ Badminton (CMB) as the Chief Guest, upon the invitation of Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB).

Sri Lanka Badminton President Roshan Gunewardena and Ceylon Masters’ Badminton President Rohan de Silva, the hosting venue – St. Joseph’s College, Colombo Rector Rev. Fr. Ranjith Andradi, and SLB Vice President Dinesh Jayawardena, were present at the opening ceremony among many other dignitaries who were present, representing sponsors and partners of the four-day event. 

A substantial prize pool of $ 10,000 is up for grabs at the prestigious Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships 2025, where matches are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. daily. Conducted in accordance to Badminton World Federation (BWF) regulations, the Ceylon Masters International 2025, which unfolded with the preliminary rounds on 6 June, will continue with the first round games on 7 June as well. The quarter-finals and semi-finals will follow on 8 June, culminating with the finals on 9 June.

The championship offers competitions for diverse age categories, spanning from Over-35 to Over-75 in Men’s and Women’s Singles as well as Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles. Combined age categories for 100+, 110+, 120+, 130+ and 140+ across Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. 

The flagship international competition hosted annually by Ceylon Masters Badminton, has attracted players of the age category of 35 and above from many badminton-playing countries. In addition to the competitive background, the competition also provides the opportunity to give international participants a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s beauty as a tourist destination.
