Despite a patient, sensible 67 runs, in 98 balls inclusive of eight fours and a six, by opening batsman Oween Salgado, Ceylinco General Insurance snatched a 18 runs win over Abans Group and lifted the glittering “CBL – Munchee” Trophy, in the 6th Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., sponsored, MCA “D” Division 50 Over League Tournament 2026 Day/night Final concluded last Sunday, 14 December at the CCC Grounds, Maitland Crescent.
Ceylinco General Insurance, who won the toss and opted to bat, scored 207 runs in 48.1 overs; riding on the opening stand of 75 runs in 102 balls between Hasitha Amarasinghe (33) and Mohamed Murshad (31), a top score of 49 runs by Linal Subasinghe and a useful 35 runs by Shalaka Bandara. The pick of the bowlers for Abans was Kaveesha Dulangana, who finished with an economical figures of 08-33-03.
Abans, chasing a victory target of 208 runs in 50 overs under lights had to earn their runs, the hard way against the tight bowling of Sandaru Dias (8.2- 1 – 30 -03) and Shalaka Bandara (9 – 32-02).
As the wickets fell on regular intervals, the gutsy Oween Salgado held the fort for Abans until he was out bowled by Sandaru Dias, (score reading 132 for 05 in 33.3 overs)
With the departure of Salgado, the game turned upside down and Abans finally crumbled to 189 all out in 49.2 overs, falling short by 18 runs.
The special awards, based on performances up to the Semi Finals went to Pasindu Dilshan, best bowler, from Nations Trust Bank, Amodha Vidanapathirana, best batter from Seylan Bank and Arjuna Perera, Man of the Series from Peoples Leasing PLC.
