Cavaliers beat MCA Veterans by 17 runs to keep Tyrone de Silva Trophy

A solid half century by Carman Mapatuna (54 runs in 42 balls, inclusive of 04 sixes & 02 fours) and a fine spell of right arm, leg spin bowling by Selvin Perera ( 05 overs, 31 runs, 04 wickets) steered Lanka Cavaliers led by Mahesh Wijeyanayake to a convincing 17 runs win over MCA Committee Veterans, as they retained the “Tyrone de Silva” Challenge Trophy, in their 20th White ball / Coloured clothing 25 over encounter 2025, concluded on Sunday, 24 August at the MCA Grounds. 

The 04 special awards were bagged by Susan Bandara – Best Fielder; Selvin Perera – Best Bowler, and Carman Mapathua – Man of the Match (all from Lanka Cavaliers) and Damitha Hunukumbura – Best Batsman from MCA Committee Veterans.

Awards were given away by the Chief Guest former MCA President Tyrone de Silva (donor of the Trophy in 2004), MCA President Mahesh de Alwis, MCA General Secretary Rohan Somaweera, Lanka Cavaliers President Riyaz Farouk, and Lanka Cavaliers Cricket Secretary Manoj Perera.

After 20 encounters, Lanka Cavaliers now lead the series with 10 wins to MCA Committee veterans 08 wins.
