The much-anticipated Ceylon Masters International Badminton Championships 2026,with over 500 international shuttlers from leading badminton-playing countries including Sri Lanka, was inaugurated yesterday at the AIR Sports Complex, Rajagiriya.
Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya, a passionate badminton enthusiast, declared open the annual high-profile badminton competition conducted by Ceylon Masters’ Badminton (CMB) as the Chief Guest.
Welcoming the distinguished guests and international participants were Ceylon Masters Badminton (CMB) President Rohan de Silva, alongside its dedicated Executive Committee, whose meticulous planning and commitment ensured the successful organisation of this prestigious international event. Also Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) officials were present at the opening ceremony among many other dignitaries, including sponsors and partners of the 4 -day glamorous event.
The prestigious CMB Masters International Badminton Championships 2026 continues until Monday, June 28th at the state-of-the-art AIR Sports Complex with matches scheduled to begin at 9:00am daily. Conducted in accordance to Badminton World Federation (BWF) regulations, the CMB Masters International 2026, which unfolded with the preliminary rounds yesterday, will continue with the first round games on June 26th as well. From then onwards, the quarter-finals and semi-finals will follow on with the grand culmination with the finals on June 28th.
The championship offers competitions for diverse age categories, spanning from Over-35 to Over-75 in Men’s and Women’s Singles as well as Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles. Combined age categories for 100+, 110+, 120+, 130+ and 140+ across Men’s and Women’s Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles. In whole, 71 events will take place under 62 different categories, bringing together the finest of Masters Badminton under one roof, in one of the leading shuttle events of the world.
The tournament will be conducted under the expert supervision of Rohana de Silva, one of Sri Lanka's most experienced badminton officials, and a prominent Masters shuttler himslef. He will be supported by Referee Upul Gamlath and Deputy Referees Sanjeewa Wijesekera and Samanthi Navaratne, ensuring the highest standards of officiating throughout the championship.
The flagship international competition hosted annually by Ceylon Masters Badminton, has attracted players of the age category of 35 and above from many badminton-playing countries. Competitors from hosts Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Switzerland, Australia, and several other leading badminton-playing nations are vying for top honours in a championship that promises world-class Masters badminton action. In addition to the competitive background, the competition also provides the opportunity to give international participants a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s beauty as a tourist destination.
The CMB International Badminton Championships 2026 has secured the assistance of some of the country’s leading corporate firms including McLarens Group, Mobil, Prime Group, 3M, Cool Max, Iodex, LiNing, Hundred, RovinAds, Seylan Bank, Sampath Bank, HNB Finance, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd, Mr. FixIt, McFoil and Elite Badminton who have stepped forward to make the event a success.
