CCC continued their defence of the Major Clubs Limited Overs title when they beat Ace Capitals CC by 43 runs at De Zoysa Stadium, Moratuwa yesterday to secure their third straight win and consolidate their position at the top of Group A.

CCC defended their moderate score of 225-9 by bowling out Ace Capital CC for 182 with their spinners capturing all ten wickets. Ashian Daniel had the best figures with 3/30 and was supported by Dilum Sudeera, Rashmika Hirushan and Lasith Croospulle with two wickets each. There were only two half-centuries scored in the entire match – by skipper Pavan Rathnayake (69 off 63 balls, 4 fours, 3 sixes) for CCC and Thisara Ekanayake (63 off 112 balls, 2 fours) for Ace Capitals CC.

Following defeats in their first two games Nugegoda SWC finally broke the losing trend by registering their first win beating Panadura SC by a thumping margin of 157 runs (DLS method) at Thurstan grounds. Rehan Peiris (57 off 77 balls, 4 fours, 2 sixes) and Sammu Ashan (85 off 104 balls, 8 fours, 1 six) shared a third wicket stand of 102 for Nugegoda SWC to post a score of 278-7. Panadura SC had their target revised to 273 from 41 overs but they crumbled for 115 to the left-arm medium-pace of Sampath Nishshanka who finished with figures of 5/38. (ST)
