In a landmark development for Indian rugby, Bihar will host the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship 2025 for the first time. Scheduled for 9 and 10 August in Rajgir, the event will bring together top Asian rugby nations, including Hong Kong China, Thailand, Malaysia, Taipei, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Kyrgyzstan, and Nepal.
This milestone comes after the Bihar State Sports Authority signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rugby India. The event’s significance extends beyond Bihar it symbolises Asia’s growing commitment to developing youth talent and promoting rugby’s popularity. With consistent investment and exposure through regional tournaments, Asian nations are producing competitive players who can shine on the global stage.
Hosting the Under-20 Sevens is expected to inspire more young athletes in Bihar and beyond, laying a strong foundation for rugby’s grassroots growth in South Asia. As nations collaborate to elevate standards, the future of Asian rugby looks promising, with the potential to become a true powerhouse in the sevens format in years to come.
Sri Lanka Boys and Girls initial selections will take place today in Colombo in order to identify the 12 players for each teams. (SJ)
