Benedictine hockey legends day at Kotahena today

The Old Benedictines are planning to bring back to glory one of its legendary sports, hockey, by uniting all past hockey players in one platform at the SBC grounds today.

This event was originally planned for November 2025 but due to the natural disaster which took place during that time it was postponed.

A mini-7-a-side tournament is scheduled to take place on the day starting at 2.30 pm. Originally it was planned to have a 9-a-side but due to the increased number of participants it is now made to a 7-a-side. 6 teams consisting of Old Benedictine hockey players will be taking part in this event. Around 60 players are expected to turn up with 10 names in each team including the substitutes.

First round of matches will be of 10 minutes duration with 5 minutes per half.

Finals will be played by 5.00 p.m.

There will be awards for the Champions, Runner-up, Best player, Best goalkeeper, etc. All players will be given participation certificates and medals. The director of SBC Rev. Bro. Niran Perera will be the chief guest.

Six captains representing the houses are: Cassian House - Anthony Kumar Stanis; Christian House - Pradeep Dassanayake; Camillus House - Anuradaha Fernando; Philip House - Drostan Vaz Leo Marianayagam; Claude House - Thilak Fernando; Luke House - Marlon Jacobs.
