Bangladesh cricketers celebrate winning Youth U19 ODI series
Sri Lanka’s chances of levelling the six-match Youth U19 ODI series against Bangladesh was shattered by rain which forced a no-result in the sixth and final match played at the Colts grounds yesterday.
The result gave Bangladesh the series 3-2.
Only 39.1 overs were possible in the sixth ODI where Bangladesh winning the toss and batting first scored 188-3 with Azizul Hakim setting the pace. The Bangladesh captain helped his side recover from losing the wicket of Zawad Abrar, the leading run scorer in the series for a duck, with a delightful knock of 94 off 111 balls (7 fours, 2 sixes).
Hakim was involved in two partnerships that revived the innings – 65 with Kalam Siddiki (31) and 108 with Rizan Hossan (48* off 64 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) which put Bangladesh back on track after Sri Lanka’s initial breakthrough.
Abrar, who won the Player of the Series award, scored 302 runs (avg. 60.40) in the six-match series.
The individual player awards for each of the matches in the series was presented by Sri Lanka Cricket Assistant Treasurer Lasantha Wickramasinghe.
Scores: Bangladesh (U19) 188-3 (39.1) (Kalam Siddiki 31, Azizul Hakim 94, Rizan Hossan 48*) v Sri Lanka (U19)
