Bakmedeniya wins RCGC conducted NCG Monthly Medal

The March Monthly Medal conducted at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) and sponsored by NCG produced impressive scoring across several competitive divisions, with over 280 golfers teeing off in one of the club’s most popular monthly events.

The highlight of the tournament came from Ruwan Bakmedeniya, who delivered a superb round of 61 Nett to emerge as the Overall Nett Winner. Competing in Division C (Handicap 19–28), Bakmedeniya also secured the Nett title in his division and went on to win the Gross award with a score of 89, completing a remarkable double on a memorable day on the course.

In Division A (Handicap 0–9 Nett), Riahn Pieris claimed the Nett title with a fine 70 on a back-nine countback, narrowly edging out Noordeen Sethwala who returned an identical score of 70 Nett. The Gross title in the top division was secured by Kumar Danushan, who produced an impressive 70 Gross.

The Division B (Handicap 10–18 Nett) competition was equally close, with Nirmal Dharmaratne winning with 70 Nett on a back-nine countback ahead of Janaka Tebuwana, who also carded 70 Nett. Nisantha Perera captured the Division B Gross title with a solid round of 80.

In the C division (handicap 19 to 28) saw overall winner, Bakmedeniya winning while Ivor Mahroof was runner up with nett 67.

Veteran golfers also made their mark in the Seniors Division where Kan Butani won the Nett event with 64, while Harendra De Silva finished runner-up with 67. De Silva, however, bounced back strongly to secure the Seniors Gross title with a fine 78.

In the Masters Division, Lanka Santha claimed the Nett title with 64, while Anura Somaratne finished runner-up with 66 Nett before going on to win the Gross title with 83 on a back-nine countback.

The Junior Division showcased promising young talent, with Hirusha Pramuditha winning the Nett title with 67, while David Karunaratne finished runner-up with 68 Nett and also secured the Junior Gross title with 79.

In the Ladies Silver Division, Anusha Senadhira won the Nett title with 73, while Kayla Perera finished runner-up with 76 Nett and also claimed the Gross title with the same score. In the Bronze Division, Ravini Perera secured the Nett win with 71 ahead of Shirani Buffin with 74, while Usha De Silva claimed the Gross award with 95.

In the Ladies Seniors category, N. Amarasuriya emerged Nett winner with 75, followed by Kalyani Ranasinghe with 76 Nett, while Mrs. Myungock Jane Hong secured the Gross title with 92.

Kushal Johnpillai won the Longest Drive at the 8th hole, while Janaka Tebuwana claimed the Nearest to the Pin at the 9th hole, rounding off another successful and well-organised Monthly Medal conducted by the Royal Colombo Golf Club with the support of sponsor NCG. (SJ)
