Badureliya SC grabbed first innings points from Negombo CC to steer clear of relegation from Group A in their drawn replay match of the SLC Major Club 3-day tournament concluded at the Galle Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Badureliya SC who resumed at 240-6 in reply to Negombo CC’s first innings of 263 lost three quick wickets to Test off-spinner Nishan Peiris and left-arm spinner Upul Indrasiri as they slid to 261-9 and looked in danger of conceding first innings points to Negombo CC.

However, a staunch last wicket stand of 74 between Chalana de Silva (57* off 49 balls, 5 fours, 5 sixes) and Chanaka Komasaru (12 off 34 balls) saw Badureliya SC recover to score 335 and gain a lead of 72. Indrasiri ended with figures of 5/102.

In their attempt to gain full points Negombo CC rattled off 193-8 declared in 24 overs (Himasha Liyanage 74 off 45 balls, 3 fours 4 sixes) and left Badureliya SC a target of 122 to chase in 39 overs. They finished on 57-4.

Negombo CC are precariously placed second from the bottom with one game in hand against wooden spoonists Ragama CC. They have a faint outside chance if they can get full points off Ragama CC and hope that Chilaw Marians CC don’t get sufficient points in their match against second placed Colts.                  – [ST]
