Back-to-back tons by Nuwanidu as Sri Lanka ‘A’ end strongly on 263-4

Second 4-day unofficial Test against Australia ‘A’

Nuwanidu Fernando followed his century in the first unofficial Test (104*) with another brilliant hundred on the first day of the second 4-day unofficial Test against Australia ‘A’ at Marrara Oval, Darwin yesterday.

Fernando’s century, coupled with Kamil Mishara’s knock of 81 (off 131 balls, 9 fours), saw Sri Lanka ‘A,’ invited to bat first, end strongly on 263-4.

Mishara fell just short of reaching 100 after being dismissed in a bizarre moment. He looked to be cruising towards a century, but Henry Thornton was able to break through after a consistent dose of short bowling. Mishara had dealt with the short ball fairly well through the early session, but he failed to move his bat in time as he ducked. Thornton’s ball found the edge as the ball spooned up towards Kurtis Patterson for an easy catch.

Fernando brought up his milestone in fine style, smashing a six to get there. He looked in fantastic touch until Mitch Perry drew his edge with a feathered ball heading to Jason Sangha at second slip.

Mishara and Fernando added 116 for the second wicket.

Liam Scott shone for Australia ‘A’ early in the day to dismiss Lahiru Udara for just 10, but the day became an uphill battle for the home side after that. Australia ‘A’ found wickets hard to come by, with Scott, Thornton, Perry, and Zanden Jeh all taking one each.

Sri Lanka ‘A’ will look to build on this start with two good batters Pavan Rathnayake and Sonal Dinusha at the wickets and Sohan de Livera to follow.
