Bloomfield bowlers were sent on a leather hunt as BRC invited to bat first piled up a first day total of 340-5 in the Under23 Inter-Club 2-day final played at the CCC grounds yesterday.
Leading the run parade for BRC was 21-year-old former Isipathana College left-hander opener Tharushka Ashel who carved out a magnificent 144 of 182 balls inclusive of 10 fours and 8 sixes.
Associated with him in partnerships of 81 and 93 were Isuru Fernando (39) and Yasiru Rodrigo (71* off 154 balls, 10 fours) respectively. Following Ashel’s departure at 250, Rodrigo built another useful partnership of 63* with Lithma Perera (32*) to take BRC past the 300-run mark.
Bloomfield skipper Tharinda Nirmal and Kaveesha Piyumal took two wickets apiece. The match continues in its second day today. – [ST]
