BCB women’s wing mulls a bilateral series against Sri Lanka

The Independent: The women’s wing of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) plans to organise a bilateral series against Sri Lanka this year as the proposed tri-nation series involving Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka is unlikely to be held.

The tri-nation series was to be held before the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers in Sri Lanka in June-July this year, but considering the global situation due to the spread of COVID-19, the series is not happening at the moment.

However, the BCB is thinking of playing a bilateral series against the Lankans and therefore the women’s wing of the BCB is considering organising a preparation camp for the female team after Eid-ul-Fitr.

A number of series of the women’s cricket has already been postponed due to the surge of the COVID-19, a deadly virus that left the whole world stranded. The BCB postponed the Women’s Under-19 World Cup, which they are set to host this year. If all goes well, maybe in 2023 it will be held.

At the same time, the 2022 Women’s World Cup qualifiers to be held in Sri Lanka in June-July is likely to be postponed. The ICC is planning to hold it in December after six months.

Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Wing Chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel said a bilateral series against Sri Lanka would be organised for the national team. “The tri-nation series is not happening at the moment,” he said.

“We were supposed to go to Sri Lanka in June. The matter now depends entirely on the situation. We will start the camp after the Sri Lanka tour. Initially, the plan was to play a tri-nation series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, but Pakistan did not respond. So, we are just thinking of playing against Sri Lanka,” he added.
