Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that they had received a letter of resignation from Avishka Gunawardene, who was attached to their High Performance Centre (HPC) as a Coach.

Gunawardene was the Head Coach of the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team and had a lot of success with them during his stint, producing several players who had graduated to make it to the national side.

Recently, in a revamp of the coaching staff at the HPC, SLC removed Gunawardene from his position of ‘A’ team Coach and reassigned him to take charge of the Sri Lanka Under-19 side, which apparently had not gone down well with him.

Gunawardene’s resignation letter will be tabled at the next SLC ExCo meeting on 7 April.
