Oman will host the 21 national teams from 17 countries at the Asia Rugby Sevens Trophy in Muscat on 25 and 26 October. Asia Rugby has made the strategic decision to combine the Trophy into one consolidated event after careful consultation with stakeholders. Originally, two separate events were scheduled, with Mongolia set to host one leg. Despite Mongolia Rugby’s full readiness and outstanding commitment, the tournament there had to be cancelled due to a sudden and unexpected surge in airfares and travel-related costs. Only three men’s and three women’s teams were able to confirm participation by the deadline, which made it potentially unfair for competing unions.
As a solution, Asia Rugby extended the option for confirmed teams to compete in the combined Trophy in Muscat, ensuring fairness, sustainability, and competitiveness for all participating nations.
