Antonians will host D.S. Senanayake College in their Dialog Schools Under-19 Rugby League encounter at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekele today (9).
The kick-off is at 4 p.m.
Originally scheduled to be played in Colombo, the venue was shifted to Kandy after the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SSRFA) temporarily suspended D.S. Senanayake College’s hosting rights following the unfortunate incident involving referee Aruna Shantha after the D.S. vs Sumangala encounter played at Havelock Park a few weeks ago.
Both teams will be desperate to bounce back after suffering defeats in their opening two matches of the season. Antonians went down to Royal College and Trinity College, while D.S. Senanayake suffered losses against Sumangala and defending champions Isipathana. With both sides still searching for their first victory, today’s clash is expected to be a closely fought contest.
The Antonians outfit will look to make maximum use of familiar conditions in Pallekele and regain confidence after two tough outings against stronger opponents. Their forwards showed glimpses of promise despite the defeats and will need to deliver a disciplined performance against a determined D.S. side.
The second R.I.T. Alles Challenge Trophy encounter between the two schools is scheduled to be played in Colombo after the conclusion of the League tournament. D.S. Senanayake emerged victorious in the inaugural clash by 26 points to 19 and will hope to continue that dominance when the two schools meet again later this season.
Referee will be Tharindu Perera. (SJ)
