Ananda College pulled off a thrilling 13-run win over S. Thomas’ College, Mt. Lavinia, to regain the Marvan Atapattu-Mahinda Halangoda trophy in the 7th three-day cricket encounter concluded at Ananda Mawatha on Sunday.
Both schools tied with the same score – 123 in their first innings. In the second innings, the Thomians dismissed Ananda for 172, leaving them with 173 to win off 95 overs. But off-spinner Kithma Widanapathirana ran through the Thomian batting, taking 6/54 to dismiss them for 159 in 48 overs, to give Ananda College an exciting win. Widanapathirana, who took 4/20 in the first innings, ended with a match bag of 10/74.
