Huzefa Akbarally emerged as the undisputed star of the Cinnamon Golf Classic 2026, producing the tournament’s best performance with a superb 62-nett to claim the Overall Winner’s title at the Royal Colombo Golf Club last weekend.
Akbarally’s outstanding round also earned him the Division C (Handicap 19-28) Nett Championship, completing a memorable double and highlighting his remarkable consistency throughout the prestigious event.
Competition was intense across all divisions. In Division A, Nishantha Perera secured the Nett title with a solid 68, while Kumar Danushan claimed the Gross Championship with an impressive 69 gross after narrowly missing out on the Nett honours. Deepal Weerasekara dominated Division B with an excellent 65-nett to win the Nett Title, while Guyanga Weerasekara lifted the Gross trophy.
The senior segment also witnessed keen competition. Lal Rupasinghe captured the Seniors’ Nett title on a back-nine countback, while Kumar Boralessa won the Seniors’ Gross Championship. In the Masters Division, Sunil Udalagama emerged as the Nett winner, while Simon Northcott claimed the Gross honours.
The younger golfers showcased their talent as Nidushka Bandaranayake won the Junior Nett title and Vinuda Weerasinghe secured the Junior Gross Championship. In the Ladies’ Silver Division, Kaytlin Norton and Pavina Dunuwilla won the Nett and Gross titles respectively, while Deepani Gamage and Usha De Silva triumphed in the Ladies’ Bronze Division.
Jane Hong enjoyed a memorable outing by completing a clean sweep of the Ladies’ Senior Division, winning both the Nett and Gross titles. Special awards went to Richard Gunawardene for the tournament’s longest drive of 314 yards, while Manoj Chandana claimed the Closest-to-the-Pin award. (SJ)
