Air Force hooker and national player Shamika Kaushan on a move

Air Force SC fly-half Gayantha Iddamalgoda delivered a commanding Player-of-the-Match performance as the home team continued their unbeaten run with a well-controlled 28/14 win over Navy SC, who are yet to win a single game in their three outings so far.

Gayantha was instrumental throughout, contributing 11 points through three penalties and two conversions to steer the hosts to another composed success.

Air Force laid a solid foundation in the first half, dictating territory and tempo to build an 18/0 lead at the short breather. Iddamalgoda opened the scoring with a 30-metre penalty before lock Maleesha Weerakoon powered through for the opening try, which the fly-half converted. Hooker and national player Shahika Kaushan then crossed from a well-executed five-metre line-out, and Iddamalgoda capped a dominant half with a long-range penalty on the stroke of halftime.

Navy showed greater urgency after the turnaround, with tries from Chirantha Kaluarachchi and Isuru Perera both converted by Thilina Weerasinghe briefly threatening a comeback. However, Air Force remained composed under pressure, absorbing the challenge with disciplined defence.

The contest was sealed four minutes from full time when the Air Force scrum-half sniped through the fringes for the decisive try, converted by Iddamalgoda. The result underlined Air Force SC’s growing confidence and control this season as they continue to establish themselves as serious title contenders.

Referee was Gihan Yatawara.
