Air Force SC powered their way to the Plate Grand Final title with a convincing 24–12 victory over Police Sports Club in their clash played at the Air Force Grounds in Ratmalana yesterday.

The hosts ran in four tries and maintained control for much of the contest while Police replied with two tries.

At halftime, Air Force held a narrow 7–5 lead after a tightly fought opening period where both sides battled hard for territory and possession.

The home side lifted their intensity after the break, displaying strong forward play and effective running rugby. Tries from Afasua Yaovasa, Shenal Uyangoda, Shamika Kaushan and Ishara Madushan highlighted their attacking strength, while Kaveesha Kaluarachchi added two conversions and impressed with an outstanding all-round performance.

Police fought back through tries by Danushka Edirisuriya and skipper Shanaka Harischandra, with Prince Chamara adding a conversion. However, Air Force’s dominance in the second half sealed a deserved Plate championship victory.

Referee for the encounter was Craig Chan from Hong Kong China. (SJ)
