The Inter-Club League rugby competition moves into a decisive phase with Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Army targeting crucial victories as the race for second-round qualification intensifies.
At Longdon Place on 10 January, Sri Lions Sports Club will host Sri Lanka Air Force with the home side still searching for their first win of the season. After an encouraging debut campaign last year, Sri Lions have endured a difficult second term, largely due to an injury crisis that has sidelined more than ten players. The lack of continuity has affected combinations and stamina, leaving them vulnerable late in matches.
Sri Lanka Air Force, is determined to capitalise. Despite recent losses to Havelock SC and Kandy SC, their spirited second-half performance against the defending champions last weekend showed their never give up quality and growing confidence. With demanding fixtures against CR and CH remaining, Air Force know that a maximum-points win here is vital to keep their Super Round Cup ambitions alive.
Referee Jeewaka Fonseka will control the game.
In the day’s other encounter, Sri Lanka Army will host Sri Lanka Navy at Panagoda on the same day, with both sides likely headed for the Plate segment in round two. Army have shown promise but inconsistency, registering just one win so far against Sri Lions.
Navy, who drew with Havelock SC in their season opener, have since suffered five consecutive defeats. If Army can sustain their intensity and execution, they are well placed to secure their second win of the season.
Gihan Yatawara will return to centre stage as the referee.
