The prevailing adverse conditions have forced Sri Lanka Cricket to postpone the commencement of the 2026-27 season indefinitely for the second time.
In a media release, SLC states:
“Due to the prevailing adverse weather conditions across the country, Sri Lanka Cricket decided to postpone the Major Club T20 Tournament, the Tier ‘B’ T20 Tournament, and the Governor’s Trophy 50-Over Tournament.”
The new season was initially scheduled to get underway on 13 May, but due to bad weather conditions, it was postponed indefinitely and was rescheduled to start today (23 May).
In all probability, the T20 tournament will be played after the Lanka Premier League in August.
No Major or Tier B matches will be played in June as the club players will be involved with the Sri Lanka ‘A’ team, who will be playing a one-day Tri-Nation tournament with India ‘A’ and Afghanistan ‘A’ in addition to two 4-day matches with India ‘A’. – [ST]
