5 matches abandoned without a ball bowled in SLC Major T20

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) were compelled to postpone the ongoing domestic tournaments after persistent rains forced five of the six matches in the SLC Major T20 to be abandoned without a ball bowled yesterday.

Play was possible briefly only in one match at the Colts grounds where Ace Capital CC invited to bat first by Panadura SC progressed to 127-7 in 17 overs before the heavens opened out and forced a no-result.

Openers Nimesha Gunasinghe (21) and Lahiru Dawatage (33) got Ace Capital CC off to a speedy start posting 55 inside the first power play. But after left-arm spinner Nimesh Vimukthi got rid of both openers Ace Capital CC slumped to 77-6 towards the halfway mark with seamer Asanka Manoj (3/35) and off-spinner Senitha Halambage (2/21) doing the damage. However, skipper Wanuja Sahan (34) and Raveen de Silva (23*) added 40 valuable runs for the seventh wicket to take Ace Capital CC to a respectable score before bad weather ended the contest.

The other five matches were all abandoned without a ball bowled. At P Sara Oval: BRC v Nugegoda SWC and CCC v Badureliya SC, At CCC: Colts v Chilaw Marians CC and Moors SC v Kurunegala YCC and at Colts grounds: Tamil Union v Police SC.

These six matches will be replayed on a later date and the matches scheduled for 22 May will also be rescheduled according to an SLC media release.

The SLC Major T20 tournament is due to resume on 25 May.

Meanwhile, the SLC Tier B T20 tournament matches scheduled for 20 and 23 May will be rescheduled and the tournament will resume on 26 May.

The Governors Trophy matches scheduled to be played between 20 and 24 May have been moved to the bottom of the tournament schedule. The tournament will resume on 25 May.
