Ace Capital CC, SSC win final group games to secure quarter-final berths

SLC Under-23 inter-club 2-day tournament 

Ace Capital CC scored an innings and 92 runs win against BRC at Bloomfield grounds to finish runner-up in Group A and thereby qualify for the quarter-finals of the Under 23 inter-club 2-day tournament.

After running up an imposing total of 355-6 declared, Ace Capital CC dismissed BRC for 147 and 116 with spinners Wanuja Sahan (6/70) and Traveen Mathew (6/34) being the chief destroyers.

Ace Capital CC were joined in the quarter-finals by Group A leaders Nugegoda SWC who secured their sixth consecutive first innings win by defeating Army SC at Dombagoda. Off-spinner Abishek Anandakumara took 5/33 to bowl out Army SC for 253 (Ashan Sudarshana 64, Tharindu Dilanka 59) in reply to Ace Capital CC’s first innings of 346-7 declared.

SSC ended runner-up to Bloomfield in Group B with a first innings points win against Kandy Customs SC at SSC grounds. Kandy Customs SC were dismissed for 138 in reply to SSC’s 219. Left-arm spinner Gishan Balasooriya was the main wicket-taker with 4/40. SSC in their second innings declared at 220-7 courtesy half-centuries from skipper Shevon Daniel (82 off 58 balls, 9 fours, 2 sixes to follow his first innings knock of 75) and 54 from Sadisha Rajapaksa. Off-spinner Kaveesha Induwara took 4/64. Left with a target of 302, Kandy Customs SC finished on 146-5.

In the other matches that ended in the final week of competition, but had no bearing on the quarter-final line-up, Tamil Union (243) took first innings points from Kurunegala YCC (213 and 47/2), Sebastianites (231 and 173/6) won on first innings against Navy SC (191), Malay CC (327/5 – Woshita Amarasinghe 126) beat United Southern SC (278) on first innings, NCC (419/8 decl. – Jeewaka Sashin 158) beat Moratuwa SC (189 and 18/0) by a thumping first innings margin, and Police SC (344/6d) pulled off a close six runs first innings win against Galle CC (338). 

In the other two groups, Chilaw Marians CC topped Group B with Moors SC as runner-up, and CCC topped Group C with Negombo CC as runner-up.
