Ace Capital CC, Nugegoda SWC, Police SC go on run spree

SLC Under-23 inter-club two-day tournament

  • Pulindu Perera scores double ton for Nugegoda SWC

Ace Capital CC, Nugegoda SWC and Police SC went on a run scoring spree on the opening day of their SLC Under-23 inter-club two-day tournament on Monday.

An excellent century from wicket-keeper Ranesh Silva (111 off 84 balls, 12 fours, 4 sixes) supported by fifties from Vinushka Silva (80 off 124 balls, 10 fours, 1 six) and Pawan Pathiraja (70 off 114 balls, 7 fours) saw Ace Capital CC run up an imposing total of 355-6 declared at Bloomfield grounds. By the close BRC were 4 down for 65.

Not far behind was Nugegoda SWC who rattled off 346-7 declared against Army SC at Dombagoda. Former Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer Pulindu Perera who has been in outstanding form, hit a brilliant double century – 223 off 241 balls (19 fours, 8 sixes) and shared a double century partnership (253) with Kavishka Boteju (78 off 168 balls, 7 fours). Army SC were 11-1 at the close.

A double century opening partnership of 264 by Dhanuja Induwara (138 off 183 balls, 18 fours) and Sangeeth Shehara (143 off 183 balls, 15 fours) saw Police SC race to 344-6 declared at the Colts grounds. Galle CC replied with 39-0 at stumps.

At the Galle Cricket Stadium, opener Thamindu Pradeeptha’s century (114 off 206 balls, 18 fours, 1 six) and 58 from Pesandu Sanjan enabled United Southern SC score 278. Colombo Malay CC were 24-0 at the close.

Moratuwa SC and NCC were involved in a tussle for first innings points at De Soysa Stadium. In reply to Moratuwa SC’s 189, NCC had scored 118-3 by stumps. Left-arm spinner Shakthi Udara took 6/63 for NCC.

Sebastianites were in control of their match against Navy SC at Kirimandala. Replying to Sebastianites score of 231 (Charuka Peiris 59), Navy SC were not too happily placed at 91-5.

SSC were also similarly on top of their game against Kandy Customs SC at SSC grounds. Skipper Shevon Daniel top scored for SSC with 75 off 96 balls (9 fours, 2 sixes) in their score of 219. By the close Kandy Customs SC were struggling at 92-6.

Bad light brought an early finish to the day at Welagedara Stadium where Kurunegala YCC scored 207-7 against Tamil Union. Amesh Tennekoon and Lakvin Abeysinghe scored fifties apiece. All matches continue on their second day today. – [ST]
