7th SSC Open International Rating Chess Championship in May at Matara

The 7th SSC Open International Rating Chess Championship, organised by the SSC Chess Academy on behalf of the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL) and the World Chess Federation (FIDE), will be held from 1 to 6 May at the Grand Rockland Hotel, Matara.

The competition will be held for both male and female players in Rated Categories 1401-1500, 1501-1600, 1601-1700, 1701-1800 and above 1800, Unrated Category, Under 6, Under 7, Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 categories for boys and girls, Best Player (Over 50), Higher Education Sector Championship (Over 18), and Mercantile and Government Sector Championship.

Cash prizes totalling Rs. 1.3 million will be awarded to the champions and first and second runners-up of all categories except for the Under 6 category for boys and girls, Best player (Over 50), Higher Education Sector Championship (Over 18), and the Mercantile and Government Sector Championship.

All international competitors who enter and have ratings over 2200 ELO will be provided with board and lodging, while those with less than 2200 ELO will be provided with lodging only. Local players should be registered with the CFSL to be eligible to enter the event.

Entries will be limited to the first 550 and will close at 2 p.m. on 30 April.
