5th Mercantile Hockey commences today

The 5th Mercantile Hockey 9-A-Side Tournament, sponsored by Singer Sri Lanka, is set to take place today (27) at the Astro Turf, Colombo 07. The much-anticipated event will bring together 16 leading corporate teams competing across four divisions for top honours.

The A Division, played for the prestigious MHA President’s Challenge Shield, will feature a strong line-up including HNB, Commercial Bank, Seylan Bank, Sampath Bank, and MAS. With last year’s edition ending in joint champions between Commercial Bank and Sampath Bank, this year’s battles are expected to be even more competitive.

The B Division, competing for the MHA Challenge Shield, will see Browns, Hayleys, John Keells, and CIAP in action. Each of these teams will be looking to stamp their authority and push for silverware in a balanced group.

The C Division also promises excitement with DPMC, Nations Trust Bank, Hemas, and FutureLife Holdings fighting for the title. Nations Trust Bank enter the tournament as defending champions and will be aiming to retain their crown against tough challengers.

The D Division rounds off the tournament with Sampath Bank (B), Deloitte, and Singer in contention. Hemas, last year’s winners, set the benchmark, but with a new line-up this season, fresh rivalries are bound to unfold.
