2014 President’s Gold Cup, volleyball tournament powered by Dialog Axiata

The President’s Gold Cup Championship, Sri Lanka’s premier annual volleyball tournament powered by Dialog Axiata will get underway first week of July. With an island wide participation of over 60,000 players, the tournament will be one of the largest sporting events held in the country attracting over 4,000 teams for the 2014 Tourney. Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity services provider Dialog Axiata PLC is stepping in to sponsor the national tournament for the tenth consecutive year, whilst the tournament has been part of the Sri Lankan national sporting calendar for the past two decades. The event hosted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation would be worked-off for a period of two months would attract teams from over 300 Grama Seva divisions including the North and East, which would in turn elevate to district level and finally national level. Dilan Perera MP, Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare and President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation who graced the event as the Chief Guest said, “The aggressive program to develop the country’s national sport at the grass root level by the Volleyball Federation has paid rich dividends to the sport.” “Dialog is an active and supportive partner to the sport in Sri Lanka, and we are pleased to have their support once again this year. Together we shall forge a new future for volleyball in Sri Lanka.” The winners, first and second runners up of Dialog President’s Gold Cup in both the men’s and women’s category will receive trophies and cash prizes, while special awards will be presented to the best players of the tournament. “I would like to thank the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation the opportunity for letting us extend our support and be a part of the President’s Gold Cup for the tenth consecutive year,” Dialog Axiata PLC Group Chief Marketing Officer Amali Nanayakkara said. “Dialog Axiata is committed to provide a platform for Sri Lankan youth and sports reach greater heights in the international sporting arena, as reflected in our association with volleyball and other sports in the country.” Dialog Axiata PLC is the official sponsor of the National Cricket and Rugby teams and is also closely associated with schools cricket, rugby, football, rowing and disabled sports.
