Appreciation Awards have been presented to several distinguished individuals for their exceptional contributions towards the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Institution (NCGI), a vital initiative aimed at supporting Sri Lanka’s SME sector.
Honored were Mr. P. M. K. Hettiarachchi, Director General, and Ms. M. Kuloja Gamindi Peiris, Acting Director, Department of Development Finance, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development; Ms. Uresha T. Walpitagama, Project Officer, Asian Development Bank (ADB); and Mr. R. M. P. Rathnayeke, Former Deputy Secretary to the Treasury and the first Chairman of NCGI.
Special appreciation was extended to the Secretary, Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, for submitting the Cabinet Paper that proposed the revival of the Credit Guarantee Institution appearing as an approved under the ADB pipeline projects under the ADB pipeline projects. This followed representations made by the CMA Sri Lanka COVID-19 SME Development Committee and led to Cabinet approval in 2021.
Mr. Takafumi Kadono, Country Director of ADB Sri Lanka, was also recognized for ADB’s funding support for the project.
The NCGI was officially launched by the Ministry of Finance on 2nd June 2025, marking a significant milestone in facilitating credit access for SMEs in Sri Lanka.
