Let me share a few thoughts on the importance of recognising the contributions made by the private sector and its leaders. Corporate leaders are among those who make some of the greatest contributions to the economy, to the livelihood of people, and to the overall wellbeing of the country.

When we look at the private sector, especially successful CEOs, they are the individuals who play the major leadership role in growing and sustaining businesses in Sri Lanka and also abroad.

In the past, we used to say that the private sector is the engine of growth. Yet, while we say that, there has not always been sufficient recognition for the private sector and its leaders for the contributions they have made to the economy, to the livelihood of people, and to the wellbeing of the country.

One of their most important contributions is the creation of gainful employment and the improvement of living standards. The private sector plays a vital role in improving the living conditions of people.

Therefore, this recognition is important. I would like to thank the Global CEO Forum for recognising this contribution. It is very significant.
