Advantis  Group, the transportation and logistics arm of Hayleys PLC, joins the global maritime community in marking World Maritime Day 2026 under the theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.” The theme draws attention to an important priority for the maritime industry: ensuring that the standards developed to make shipping safer, more secure, efficient and environmentally responsible are reflected in how the industry operates every day.

This focus on safety and compliance also extends to the development of maritime professionals. Through its crew management and training capabilities, Advantis supports seafarers in maintaining the technical knowledge, operational awareness and competencies required in a changing industry. Training covers vessel operations and international safety requirements, combining technical knowledge with practical preparation for working at sea.

Technology and innovation increasingly support the application of these requirements in practice. As maritime operations become more complex, digital systems and access to operational information can improve planning, monitoring and decision-making. Combined with skilled people and clear processes, these tools help embed standards in everyday operations rather than leaving them as procedural requirements.

Environmental responsibility is also part of this approach. As the maritime sector responds to changing expectations around emissions, pollution prevention and marine protection, Advantis is working to improve operational efficiency and reduce its environmental footprint. The Group has installed shore power connections on an anchor-handling tug, reducing fuel consumption and emissions while berthed, and has undertaken hull cleaning across its vessel fleet to reduce hydrodynamic resistance, improve fuel efficiency and minimise associated greenhouse gas emissions.

A solar power system installed on a marine craft has also continued to partially replace energy generated through auxiliary engines, contributing to an estimated 5% annual reduction in associated emissions. These initiatives are guided by HELIOS, the Group’s Environmental, Social and Governance framework, and supported by an Environmental Management System that translates Group-level environmental objectives into measurable targets for individual Strategic Business Units. Environmental performance is reported monthly, with quarterly audits supporting continuous improvement and corrective action where required.
