The Hambantota International Port (HIP), in a bid to expand its marine services, has deployed 2 additional boats to their existing fleet that’s available for hire by local service providers engaged in offering crew changes, bunker and draft surveying, a platform for technical support in underwater inspections, underwater and afloat repairs, propeller cleaning, supply of provisions and spare parts, etc.

Hambantota International Port Marine Service and Fleet Management DGM Charaka Rupasinghe said: “HIP is aggressively involved in developing the marine service industry and this addition to our existing facilities will enhance the services we provide to shipping lines who engage with us. Apart from that, the service boats are a great support to entrepreneurs connecting with vessels in the Out Port Limit Anchorage for ship chandling, as well as enabling seamless navigation for ships with zero potential delays.”

He added that the two service boats are another initiative by HIPG to grow the marine services industry, going beyond traditional port business.

The two boats, each with carrying capacities of approximately 12 persons and 1.5 metric tonnes of cargo, will widen opportunities for entrepreneurs in the marine services area in Sri Lanka. HIP, which is invested in further developing the marine services business, is in the process of adding several other facilities to their portfolio in order to cater to all types of ocean-going vessels. HIP continues to position strongly as Sri Lanka’s multipurpose gateway port, leveraging its strategic location to full advantage.
