Scanwell Logistics commemorates National Logistics Day

Established in 2021, National Logistics Day (16 August) is widely recognised across the industry to celebrate and honour the professionals in the logistics sector. Today, the day takes on an even greater significance, with nearly all aspects of life relying on the timely delivery of goods through a network of transporters, distributors, and shippers.

Although the day was officially recognised in the recent past, the practice of trading is not new. Originally, trading took place between China and Europe via caravans across Central Asia through a chain of ports extending between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. With the growth of commercialisation, the logistics industry expanded exponentially. This industry grew from trades through caravans to a complete gamut of services ranging from air freight, sea freight, in-land distribution, cross-border logistics, etc.

Scanwell Logistics has been a proud contributor to this industry since 1981. Scanwell commenced its operations out of Hong Kong, providing end-to-end logistics solutions on a regional and international scale. With over 37 years of industry experience, Scanwell Logistics now commands a strong global presence across 65 locations throughout Asia, North America, Europe, and the Middle East. It has now proudly grown to be one of the biggest Asia-based freight forwarders and logistics service providers.

A strategic move that streamlined operations throughout the neighbourhood and within the region is the commencement of operations in the Asiatic Region through Colombo in 1989. The Colombo Office is now the hub of operations for all branch offices, both in Bangladesh and India.

Scanwell Logistics Colombo, which was established with an expert team of 15 dedicated employees has now grown to a committed team of over 400 individuals, offering a variety of services such as air and ocean freight, vendor management, operating bonded and non-bonded warehousing, air-to-sea and sea-to-air transshipment, road haulage, customs brokerage, etc.“Scanwell has been a significant force in driving the logistics industry in Sri Lanka. With over three decades of experience, Scanwell Logistics has been recognised as an ethical freight forwarder within Sri Lanka. Scanwell Logistics Colombo has also joined hands with ‘Bridge 2 Peace’, a non-profit organisation that supports Sri Lankan families affected by the devastating Tsunami in 2004. To this day, Scanwell Logistics assists with providing the rural communities in Lunugamvehera, Batticaloa, and Diyathalawa with teacher training, early childhood education, and programs that help build vocational skills.
