The Hambantota International Port Group (HIPG) won double recognition at the Global Port Forum Dubai, being named Multipurpose Port/Terminal of the Year 2022 and Port Infrastructure Development of the Year 2022 for the second consecutive year.

The port was honoured with these accolades in the midst of several international port operators and industry leaders gathered at the grand Awards ceremony held at Dubai’s Shangri-La Hotel.

HIPG CEO Johnson Liu, Commercial & Marketing General Manager Lance Zuo and Commercial & Marketing Senior Manager Nishantha Gamage joined industry representatives from several parts of the world who came together for networking and knowledge sharing, which was an opportunity to strategise the strengthening of modern-day supply chains.

HIPG CEO Johnson Liu said: “While ports are competitors when they have a stand-alone strategy in building supply routes and reducing logistics costs, there is a necessity for ports to have a certain understanding and connectivity. While HIPG is doing the utmost to enhance service levels, efficiency, productivity and quality within all areas of our operations, there are areas that can prove a significant challenge and optimising relationships with other international operators can ensure efficient supply chains, use of effective technology, and information sharing that will further streamline infrastructure.”

“Forums such as these help us to meet peer to peer for discussions on how we can better the system. We are therefore greatly appreciative of the time afforded to us for networking.”

Commercial & Marketing General Manager Lance Zuo said: “Being recognised as the ‘Multi-Purpose Port/Terminal of The Year 2022’ is a great achievement for the port because it is a recognition of our capability to provide the entire gamut of services including general cargo, Ro-Ro, passenger, bunkering, bulk terminal, gas and project cargo. The other accolade ‘Port Infrastructure Development of the Year 2022’ is also a confirmation that we are becoming the logistics hub in the region, with warehouses, storage areas and distribution centres set up within the port premises. We are perfectly located to provide our customers with all the services that would make us one of the best multi-purpose ports in the world.”
