Cabinet clears new surcharges by Customs

The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved a proposal to submit orders on surcharges as per the Customs Ordinance to the Parliament.

On 30 November and on 4 November 2022, two Gazette notifications were published imposing a percentage surcharge on Customs import duty for a few selected goods, as per the provisions enforced under section 10 (a) of the Customs Ordinance.

The proposal to this effect submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his capacity as the Finance, Economic Stabilisation and National Policies was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on Monday.
