CASA Maritime Conference 2022 today puts spotlight on new technology in green shipping

The CASA Maritime Conference 2022 will be held today from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the Grand Ballroom – Hotel Galadari focussing on the theme “New technology in green shipping”.

The conference is to mark World Maritime Day 2022 which fell on 29 September.

The key focus areas of the conference include the green transition of the maritime industry towards a sustainable future - terminal perspective; role of technology in the maritime and logistics industry - stakeholder perspective and sustainability and energy transition green shipping - LNG/Fuel.

Chief Guest will be Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and keynote will be delivered by SLASSCOM Vice Chairman and JKH Group Infomate Ltd. CEO Jehan Perinpanayagam.

Session on “Towards a sustainable future -The Green Transition of the Maritime Industry - Terminal

Perspective” will have Colombo West international Terminal (CWIT) CEO Harikrishnan Sundaram, South Asia Gateway Terminal COO Upul Jinadasa and Colombo International Container Terminals General Manager -Engineering Hugo Zou and Deputy General Manager Operations Allen Qian as speakers.

In the panel discussion that will follow, expert panellist is Hambantota International

Port Group Senior General Manager -HR and ADM Jeewan Premasara whilst the moderator is Aitken Spence Shipping Ltd. COO - Freight Sector and Assistant Vice President - Business Development Maritime, Freight and Logistics Sectors Dhashma Karunaratne.

Post-lunch session titled “Digitalization - Role of Technology in the Maritime and Logistics Industry-stakeholders perspective” will see EFL Global Chief Digital Officer Ahmed Irfan, Maersk Line Head of Sales and Commercial for Sri Lanka and Maldives Fawmy Siddeek, Sri Lanka Customs Deputy Director ICT Division Thilaka Pragnaratne and CASA Chairman Documentation IT Committee and Hayleys Advantis General Manager Information Systems Chrishantha Fernando as speakers.

Kale Logistics Director Vineet Malhotra will be the expert at the panel discussion moderated by Youngship Patron and GAS Logistics Head of Liner and Logistics Products Navin Perera, and Youngship Vice Chairman and Meridian Maritime Services Ltd. Director Operations Maleena Awn.

The final session of the conference will focus on “Marine Waste Management, Oil Pollution, Sustainability and Energy Transition – Greener Shipping LNG/Fuel.” The speakers are University of Ruhuna Professor in Oceanography Prof. Turney Pradeep Kumara, UN Global Compact Network Executive Director Rathika De Silva, Hayleys Energy Services Lanka Ltd. Director/CEO Ricky Barnett.

In the subsequent panel discussion, expert panellist will be Environmental Foundation Ltd. Director Dr. Sevvandi Jayakody and the moderators will be McLarens Group Management Ltd. Group Chief Commercial Officer Mahesh Kurukulasuriya and GAC Shipping Ltd. Manager - Commercial Anjalika Perera.

CASA Chairperson and McLarens Group Managing Director Shehara de Silva and CASA Education and Training Committee Chairman and McLarens Group Management Ltd. Consultant Shipping and HR Anoma Ranasinghe will address the conference as well.
