Mountain View, CA: WSO2, the lean enterprise middleware provider, today announced that it has been positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the ‘Visionaries’ quadrant of two reports: Magic Quadrant for Shared SOA Interoperability Infrastructure Projects and Magic Quadrant for Application Infrastructure Systematic SOA-Style Application Projects.

WSO2’s open source, enterprise middleware platforms include the award-winning WSO2 Carbon, the industry’s first fully componentised middleware platform, and WSO2 Stratos, the first 100% open source cloud platform for enterprise applications. “From the start, we have focused on what modern enterprises want by creating a lean and highly adaptive middleware platform for SOAs,” said Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana, founder and CEO of WSO2.  “We are excited to be positioned in the ‘Visionaries’ quadrant by Gartner. We view it as confirmation of our vision of reinventing the middleware platform around the next generation of open software standards, and our commitment to both technology and services that meet enterprises’ real-world business needs.”

The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Application Infrastructure Systematic SOA-Style Application Projects examined the ability of leading application infrastructure vendors to provide users with complete end-to-end support for SOA-style application projects, stating that, “New and composite service-oriented business applications require a complex collection of capabilities in runtime technologies and development tools.” The Gartner Magic Quadrant for Shared SOA Interoperability Infrastructure Projects observed, “The deployment of comprehensive interoperability and governance capabilities, shared across multiple applications and processes, is key to successful SOA initiatives.” This Magic Quadrant assessed the vendors that provide these capabilities in their application infrastructure middleware offerings.

WSO2 Lean Middleware and Services

The fully componentized WSO2 Carbon middleware platform lets developers easily deploy and customize any of the ten WSO2 Carbon-based middleware products, providing greater flexibility and agility to meet changing enterprise demands. WSO2 Carbon, which also features extensive cloud functionality, is the only middleware that allows the same applications to be migrated on premise, to a private cloud, or to the public cloud—smoothly, safely and free from cloud lock-in.

Launched as an early release in June 2010, WSO2 Stratos is built on top of and extends WSO2 Carbon, providing organizations of all sizes a fully hosted application platform-as-a-service (PaaS). IT professionals can build and deploy applications and services with instant provisioning of enterprise servers, including the portal, enterprise service bus (ESB), and application server.  WSO2 offers a range of service and support options for WSO2 Carbon and WSO2 Stratos, including evaluation support, special QuickStartSM and CloudStartSM consulting programs, development support, and production support. The WSO2 SOA middleware products are fully open source solutions released under the Apache License 2.0; they do not carry any licensing fees.
