New kids play area opens at BIA

The overall experience and ambience at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Colombo achieved yet another milestone with passenger needs getting another boost with the opening of Playport, a kids’ play area facility.  

Inbound tourism in Sri Lanka is going through a significant resurgence, depicting a 44% growth. The outbound sector, traditionally limited to business travel and travel related to overseas employment has seen a change in recent years with holiday travellers.

The affordability of foreign travel, the low cost entry airlines into Bandaranaike International Airport has given an opportunity to many Sri Lankan families to travel abroad on a regular basis.  

Major airports around the world now cater to travelling families by including kids play areas. Having identified this need at Bandaranaike International Airport, Alpha Orient Lanka the leading Duty Free Retailer has donated a kids play area to Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited.  

This added new facility was ceremonially opened recently by Prasanna Wickramasuriya, Chairman, Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Limited.

“Our journey towards attracting 2.5 million tourists by year 2016 into Sri Lanka will be enhanced by this type of passenger friendly facilities. I would like to thank Alpha Orient Lanka for their innovative idea and the generous donation in funding this project,” Wickramasuriya, added during the opening ceremony.

“Kids play areas are becoming a popular attraction in leading airports around the world. Kids play area will not only enhance the airport facility at the Bandaranaike International Airport, but also uplift the overall atmosphere at the airport and we are pleased to play a part in this venture,” said Dimantha Kinigama, CEO of Alpha Orient Lanka Ltd.
