First-ever Inter-Club Tennis Championship for juniors

An Inter-Club Tennis Championship for juniors will be conducted for the first time in memory of Arjan Perera, the former National Champion of Sri Lanka from December 10 to 12 at the SLTA courts.

The tournament will be conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) and will consist of girls and boys singles and mixed doubles. All teams will be divided into two groups.

The teams will consist of the following:

Team A: SLTA Playing section, Finagara Club, Bandarawela Tennis Club and NCC.

Team B: Negombo Tennis Club, Lake View Tennis Club, SSC and Ratnapura.

Dharaka Ellawala is appointed as the tournament referee. SLTA will provide umpires for all matches. Whilst the matches are played on hard courts. United Sports the agents for Wilson Championship balls will sponsor the balls for the tournament.

Former Sri Lanka’s tennis champ and Davis Cup non-playing captain Arjan Perera died at the age of 46, from cancer in October 2008. Arjan was also a former Vice President of the SLTA, a tennis coach and had won several men’s doubles and mixed doubles titles as well during his colourful playing career.

Ratnapura Tennis Club: (Thilini Atapattu, Chalini Gunathilaka, Manul Wickremasinghe.)

Lake View Tennis Club: (Pathmanathan Yathusamy, Ambalavanan Akirthan, Thayparan Abinaya, Sahron Deborah, Mohanraj Rubesh, Sanjeev Mohankumar.)

Bandarawela Tennis Club: (Akila Vimukthi, B Suren, C Kuganeshan, Ishini, Anuki Jayawardena)

SLTA Playing Section: (Shamal Dissanayaka, Joshua Jayarathna, Dasun Fernando, Thisuri Molligoda, Nethmi Waduge, Thewuni Devaraja.)

SSC: (Danushka Abeywardena, Avishka Perera, Aaquil Gafoor, Oshani Wickremasinghe, Kayali.)

Negombo Tennis Club: (Nishangan Nadarajah, Chehan Deepal Fernando, Ibrahim Iqbal, Kavindya De Silva, Dilini Perera.)
