Twenty-five families in the Katunayake-Minuwangoda area have received the life-changing gift of their own water supply under a community initiative of Brandix, Sri Lanka’s largest apparel exporter.

The company has built micro water supply schemes for these families, each of which has at least one member employed at the Brandix Intimate Apparel plants in Katunayake and Minuwangoda.

Constructed under the ‘Mehewarata Diyawara’ project of the Brandix ‘Care for our Own’ programme, these water supply systems benefit the recipient families and their immediate neighbours and eliminate the need for them to spend hours each day collecting their requirements of water.

The 25 micro water supply schemes were implemented by Brandix as a tribute to James Schwartz, President – Independent Client Group (ICG) of Mast Industries, a Limited Brands Inc., subsidiary and one of the world’s largest contract manufacturers, importers and distributors of apparel.

“Schwartz was intensely interested in the water-related community initiatives of Brandix when he visited Sri Lanka recently,” a spokesman for Brandix said.

“This segment of our micro water supply programme was therefore dedicated in his name.”
