CTBUH Sri Lanka conference concludes successfully

The CTBUH Sri Lanka conference was held on 15 December 2022, at Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Colombo.

The forum was successful in gathering many prominent tall building professionals in Sri Lanka in the form of structural engineers, building services engineers, architects, academics, researchers, developers, builders, specialist material suppliers, and also some young prospective future tall building leaders. The audience included over 50 participants who joined physically while providing the live stream of the forum on YouTube.

The conference was initiated with a welcome address by CTBUH Sri Lanka Vice President Arch. Nirodha Gunadasa. He discussed that every crisis leads to another crisis, thus it is always required to be prepared with the changes happening globally.

The first speech of the conference was by the Chief Guest Arch. Jayantha Perera who discussed the industry and crisis especially of the risks in the Sri Lankan context. In addition to this he also shared some insights on the opportunities followed as a result of this crisis on how to evolve.

The first keynote speech on ‘Managing Project Risk in a Critical Economic Environment’ was delivered by Dr. Paulo Vaz-Serra. He explained the importance, identification and analysis of risks in order to evaluate and manage the risks.

The second keynote speaker Prof. Priyan Mendis conducted a discussion on ‘Global Trends Towards Net Zero Tall Buildings’. Prof. Mendis also stressed upon the importance of encouraging the concepts of modular construction for a circular economy. Shiromal Fernando also spoke.

The conference saw the launch of the “Tall Building Guideline Book” by Prof. Priyan and Shiromal Fernando. The vote of thanks was delivered by Bishar Haadi followed by the distribution of tokens of appreciation were handed over to the honourable chief guest Arch. Jayantha Perera and keynote speaker Dr. Paulo Vaz-Serra by Arch. Nirodha Gunadasa and Ruwan de Silva.
