EV registrations recorded 8,098 units in April, down from 8,805 units in March as per latest data.
Motor car EV registrations fell sharply to 387 units in April from 1,183 units in March, while EV SUV registrations declined to 139 units from 218 units.
Two-wheelers continued to account for the bulk of EV volumes, recording 7,452 units in April, slightly above March volumes of 7,195 units and significantly higher than the 2,500–4,000 unit monthly range seen previously. EVs now account for 19.3% of total 2W vehicle registrations, up significantly from 8.4% three months ago
EV three-wheelers recorded 102 units in April, down from 186 units in March. Electric van registrations recorded 568 units in April, down from 784 units in March.
Brand-new units accounted for 47 registrations, while the balance of 521 units were pre-owned. Suzuki Every led the segment with 378 units, followed by Toyota with 84 units — including 41 Hiace units — and Nissan with 72 units, of which the Clipper accounted for 65 units. The financing share in the van segment stood at 57%.
Overall total vehicle registrations declined sharply in April, falling to 51,156 units from 59,734 units in March. Almost all vehicle segments recorded contractions, with the decline in three-wheeler registrations making the largest contribution to the overall drop.
