The AGM saw the election of seven new members to the Council of SLIA and the presentation of the Annual report, which provided an in-depth review of the progress of SLIA. Furthermore, issues pertaining to the membership, profession and the future plans of the SLIA were also discussed in detail. CSR activities and taking architecture to the rural parts of the island were also given prominence during the discussions.
The SLIA was established in 1957 and was incorporated under an Act of Parliament in 1976. Since then, it has functioned as the professional governing body of Sri Lankan architects. With over 1000 members, the primary purpose of SLIA is the regulation of architectural education and practice in Sri Lanka.
In addition to the AGM, the Annual Sessions of the SLIA included the Inauguration Ceremony, The National Conference, the Members’ Works
and Trade Exhibition and Fellowship Nite for a festive closing.
The Architect 2014 is organised by SLIA in partnership with strategic sponsor Phoenix FlowGuard, principal sponsor Alumex Ltd, associate sponsors Ranjanas Ceramic, True Value Products Ltd and Orel Corporation and event sponsors ICC, Asian Paints, Multilac, Lankem Robbialac, Delmege Forsyth, Foster & Reed, St. Anthony’s Hardware and Assalaarachchi Construction Ltd while the main media sponsors for the occasion will be ITN and Lakhanda.
