As a request by President’s Counsel, Faiszer Mustapha, the Kotahena Central College received a ‘Mahindodaya Technical Laboratory and the lab consists of a Maths Centre, Information Technology Unit, Nanesa Distant Education Unit and a Language Centre.
Addressing the gathering, Mustapha stated that Central Colombo has the highest level of poverty and lowest educational facilities compared to other areas of the country.
He further said that the citizens of Central Colombo haven’t realised the benefits of free education and strategic steps are being taken to change the attitude of people to pursue reputed occupations rather than settling for being taxi drivers and road side vendors. He also stated that education is the only key to create educated and intellectual people in society.
“People can enhance their living standards through proper education and scholars often become highly valuable people in society while being exemplary role models for the future generations,” said the Minister.
The occasion was attended by the principal of the school Darmadasa Galaboda and Provincial Councillor Hirunika Premachandra as well as political leaders of the area, teachers of the school and students together with their parents.
