The rapid advancement of technology—particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI)—is transforming economies, industries, and everyday life across the globe. Among the nation’s leading this transformation is India, which has steadily evolved into a global IT powerhouse over the past three decades.
India’s information technology sector has become a major contributor to national GDP and export earnings. Renowned companies such as TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCL Technologies serve leading international clients, positioning the country as a trusted global technology partner. Backed by a vast STEM talent pool and a strong digital infrastructure, India now ranks among the top nations in AI research and implementation, with recognition from institutions such as Stanford University for its growing AI competitiveness.
The country is now transitioning from cost-driven IT services to high-value, AI-powered innovation. Artificial Intelligence is actively reshaping key sectors. In healthcare, AI assists in early disease detection and diagnostics. In finance, it strengthens fraud detection systems and supports digital payment platforms. Agriculture benefits from AI-driven weather forecasting and crop advisory tools, while education is being enhanced through personalised learning platforms such as BYJU’S. Smart urban systems are also leveraging AI to improve traffic management and city planning.
However, the rapid expansion of AI brings challenges, including concerns about data privacy, algorithmic bias, and potential job displacement. Policymakers and industry leaders are therefore emphasising responsible AI development, focusing on ethical frameworks and inclusive growth.
To further solidify its leadership in this space, the Government of India is hosting the India—AI Impact Summit 2026 from 16–20 February 2026 at Bharat Mandapam. The summit aims to promote global collaboration, ethical AI practices, and sustainable technological advancement. Among the distinguished participants expected to attend is Anura Kumara Dissanayake, highlighting regional engagement in shaping the future of AI.
Through strategic investment, global partnerships, and a commitment to people-centric innovation, India is positioning itself not only as a technology leader but also as a champion of responsible and inclusive AI development for the world.
